The Best Websites to Land Your First TEFL Job

Landing a TEFL job, whether It’s abroad or online can be a stressful experience. To help you navigate through the TEFL employment minefield, I’ve put together a list of the best job sites to help you filter out the nonsense and find the best position for you.

I’ve added websites that advertise international job posts, online teaching jobs, as well as sites designed to hire teachers for a specific country.

Premier TEFL

Before accepting any TEFL job, do as much research as you can on the company or recruiter you’re applying to. Read reviews, reach out to teachers who work or have worked for them, and most importantly – never pay any money! They are hiring you, not the other way around. There is never a reason why the employee should send the potential employer money.  Be careful!

Dave’s ESL Café

Dave’s ESL Café is the holy grail of TEFL job hunting. New jobs are posted daily! Both online and international vacancies are advertised, and the site even has specialized Korean and Chinese job boards.

It’s my personal favourite, and my go-to whenever I’m looking for a new position.

TEFL.org

TEFL.org has a fantastic filtering system. You can filter which positions require a degree and which don’t, how many hours TEFL certificate is required for certain positions, what country you want to teach in and more! There is even a map view.

Job listings aren’t updated as often as other sites on this list, but the sophisticated search option on tefl.org could help you save a lot of time.

TeachAway

TeachAway advertise hundreds of job openings in over 40 countries, including universities and international schools.

The user experience is smooth, aesthetically pleasing and there is a Quick Apply feature to use if you wish.

Ajarn (Thailand ONLY)

If you’re looking for a teaching job in Thailand, there is no better place to look than Ajarn.  The site has been around since 1999 and is still the best-known TEFL site for jobs in Thailand.

In addition to job postings, the site also provides teacher guides, course info, blog posts and articles.

Chinateachjobs (China ONLY)

Chinateachjob regular posts job openings for across China.  The website does not limit itself to TEFL jobs, but advertises for all kind of teaching positions –

There are, of course, many other websites, Facebook groups and forums where you can go to find the perfect TEFL position for you, but I think you can’t go wrong with the list above!
